In 1974, a young woman named Elizabeth came to the parish office of St. Stephen’s in search of food for her family. She had several children, no food and no money. The following Sunday an appeal was made to the parish for food for Elizabeth’s family, and that was the beginning of the Food Pantry.

The Chard Wray Food Pantry provides groceries to families, seniors and others in the community who have access to cooking facilities but who have a difficult time affording wholesome, nutritious food throughout the month.

The pantry is staffed by volunteers from local community groups and churches. The pantry is always happy to accept non-perishable foods and financial donations.

The Chard Wray Food Pantry is maintained through the generosity of schools and businesses in the community, and especially through the contributions of churches who are acting on the words of Jesus: “Feed my sheep.”
